Body of Missing Girl Found in Missouri

Iran says it will respond to a suggested deal on their nuclear program next week instead of today. The UN has proposed exporting most of Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia for further refining, BBC News.

After a three day search, the body of nine-year-old Elizabeth Olten has been found in Missouri. The girl disappeared while walking home from a neighbor’s house on Wednesday. Police say a juvenile, who is older than Olten but acquainted with her, is being held in connection with her death, KSPR News.

The mother of the boy who was reported to be stuck in a runaway helium balloon earlier this month admitted to authorities that the event was a hoax, according to newly released court documents. Felony charges are expected to be filed against the boy’s parents, Reuters.

Iran Accuses Pakistan of Aiding Suicide Attack

Iran has accused Pakistani agents of aiding a suicide attack in Sistan-Baluchistan that killed at least 35 people. The attackers targeted a group of Revolutionary Guards and at least six officers were killed, BBC News.

Colorado officials have confirmed that they believe the story of a six-year-old being trapped in a runaway balloon was indeed a hoax. The boy was found safe in his home hours after a desperate search and rescue operation was launched. Authorities say they realized the story was false while watching the boy’s family on Larry King Live, where the boy said “You guys said we did this for the show.” Sheriff Jim Alderden of Larimer County called the story a “publicity stunt,” CNN.

Two aid workers from the Irish agency Goal have been freed after being kidnapped in Darfur over 100 days ago. The conflict in Darfur began in 2003 and has claimed more than 300,000 lives, Reuters.

Pakistani Troops Attack Taliban Strongholds

Colorado authorities say they expect criminal charges to be filed against the family of the six-year-old boy who was reported to be trapped in a runaway helium balloon on Thursday. The incident dominated media coverage and, after the boy was found safe inside his home, questions have been raised about whether the family made the story up, CNN.

Pakistan unveiled an anticipated new ground strategy today, using more than 30,000 troops to attack al-Qaeda and Taliban strongholds along the Afghan border. Early reports say that the troops are “meeting fierce resistance from Taliban fighters,” Guardian UK.

Israel is furious over the UN Human Rights Commission’s endorsement of the Goldstone Report, which accuses Israel of targeting civilians during the December-January conflict. The report also faulted Hamas for firing rockets into Israel, Jerusalem Post.
