Ahmadinejad says Iran is now a “nuclear state”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that Iran is now a “nuclear state.” Ahmadinejad said nuclear scientists were successful in enriching uranium, New York Times.

Protesters took to the streets today in Tehran during state-sponsored rallies marking the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, Reuters. Link to a list of protests happening around the world in support of the dissidents in Iran, Pro Democracy Movement of Iran.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela from a South African prison where he had been a political prisoner for 27 years. The 91 year-old Mandela did not attend the march of thousands, Times Online.
