Earthquake in China Damages 10,000 Homes

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has destroyed close to 10,000 homes in China and injured at least 300. The earthquake occurred in the Yunnan province in southwest China. An earthquake in May of last year in the country killed 68,000 people, CNN.

American swimmer Michael Phelps set a new world record today in the 100m butterfly event. The event took place at the U.S. trials for the World Championships in Rome. Phelps’ time of 50.22 seconds broke Ian Crocker’s four-year record. Phelps won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last year, BBC Sport.

Three gravediggers have been charged in the U.S. in taking part in a scheme where they dug up hundreds of corpses, resold their plots and buried new bodies in their place. The scheme happened at a historic black cemetery near Chicago, where lynching victim Emmett Till was buried, USA Today.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan is asking for international support to help the country after battling the Taliban, saying, “This is a cancer and Pakistan cannot handle it alone. We need international support,” Sky News.
