Today’s Jackson Memorial Dominates Media Coverage

A memorial tribute to Michael Jackson will begin at 12pm EDT at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Though tickets were distributed by an online lottery, thousands have flocked to Los Angeles to be near the event. CNN Live feed.

Unrest continues in the city of Urumqi in China following Sunday’s riots by member of the Uighur ethnic group. Chinese officials say the majority of the 156 killed in the riots were Han Chinese while Uighur groups claim the majority were Uighur. Participants of the most recent riots are said to be Han Chinese who are targeting Uighurs in retaliation for Sunday’s violence, BBC News.

Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party, PRI, made a comeback by winning a majority of the midterm congressional elections. PRI controlled government for 70 years before being defeated by National Action Party, PAN, the party of the current president Felipe Calderon, Los Angeles Times.

In a deadly day in Afghanistan yesterday, 10 members of the NATO led coalition died: 7 Americans, 2 Canadians, and 1 Briton, CNN International.
